Florida Scuba Diving Accident Adds To The Statistics Of Scuba Diving Fatalities:

21 October 2009 Larry Herman Reeves, a 67-year-old tourist from Maryville, Tennessee, died while scuba diving off Key Largo, Florida. The scuba diver was pronounced dead by the US Coast Guard paramedics who arrived at the scene in response to a call by witnesses who also tried but failed to rescue the miserable victim.

The fatal accident happened when Mr. Reeves was diving at a popular Benwood Wreck dive site together with his wife who acted as his dive buddy from a dive boat "Amorey Diver" that had been chartered by a group of divers alleged to hardly know each other. Nobody noticed when he just started at some moment drifting away from the rest of the scuba divers. According to the the Coast Guard, approximately at 2:30 p.m. local time Reeves' body floating face down in the water was noticed 4 miles east from Rodriguez Key by people aboard "Coral Princess I" - commercial dive boat chartered by the military for technical dive training. The military medics, who turned out to be among the boat's passengers, immediately started performing the CPR and kept doing it attempting to revive the unconscious victim while the boat rushed towards the shore to hand the patient over to the emergency brigade who then immediately took him to the hospital. The accident was investigated by the Coast Guard and Monroe County Sheriff's deputies to determine the cause of death at Port Largo Marina. The Sheriff's Office ordered autopsy.
