Go Scuba Diving in Majorca

Note: Majorca (Catalan and Spanish "Mallorca") is the largest island of Spain. It is located in the Mediterranean Sea and is a part of the Balearic Islands archipelago.

Majorca is an island full of exciting and interesting areas in which to explore and investigate. Whether you are staying on the island for a few days or a few weeks, in order to truly have a holiday you won't forget, a day spent scuba diving is a must. Majorca offers divers with many wonderful and fascinating diving sites which are perfect for all divers whether you are a beginner or experienced. The island is full of diving schools which can help teach you the different breathing methods, etc that you will need, as well as instructors who can come out with you on your dives to ensure no gem goes unseen!

Many of Majorca's dive sites are filled with spectacular underwater scenery filled with plenty of marine flora and a wide variety of different fish and coral. Depending on the areas in which you dive in, you may also be lucky enough to view some of the stunning reefs and wrecks which can be found among the sea coast of Majorca. The island is filled with places in which to dive, but for some of the best sites, it is best to venture to the southwest area of the island as there are a number of marine reserves and rocky seabed within this area which allow for a better diving experience. Majorca is filled with plenty of caves, caverns and tunnels which have merged into the different carbonate rocks which provide divers with a range of different levels which offer different experiences as you explore further into the sea.

One of the best sites for divers is Santa Ponsa which allows divers to access different dive sites from the wrecks at Palma to the nature reserve at Dragonera. The islands of El Toro and the Malgrats have recently been made into marine reserves which allow for fish to grow in numbers from an area which was once a popular fishing spot. Santa Ponsa is also awaiting a new dive centre which will help to increase the overall marine life within the waters and will make a nice alternative for divers as opposed to cave and wall diving. Overall, Majorca is a great place to go for budget scuba diving, and is a great place in which to go if you are a beginner in scuba diving thanks to the variety of diving sites which are located on the island.

When it comes to picking the best time in which to go scuba diving in Majorca, the warmest time of the year runs between May and October. However, those who are hoping to have the waters to themselves, but still wish to enjoy some of the great weather Majorca offers, should look to visit between early July and late September as the weather and water will still be of a good temperature. After these times, diving can become tricky as the water conditions will be less reliable which will often lead to abandoned diving plans.

When it comes to exploring Majorca, for the ultimate experience, an exploration of the Mediterranean Sea is a must to see all that the island has to offer. Not only will you be opened up to new and exciting areas of the island, but you will also be spoilt for choice in terms of the fantastic sea life you will be introduced to.
